Bello // Disegno // Invenzione

These portraits are the beginning of a lifelong collaboration with my friend and fellow artist, Bello. The project explores the dynamic between two artists, each reflecting the other as a mirror of the creative spirit. This first round of portraits evolved over the course of two years, with each image adding layers of meaning that go beyond what a single image can convey. Our theory is that the amalgamation of these works will form a narrative that reveals something true and essential about both the subject and the observer.

The project takes its title from terms used by Giorgio Vasari, the Italian Renaissance master who founded the first art academy in Florence. Disegno and invenzione — translated as design and creativity — represent the artist’s vision and how they communicate through an artwork.

Each of these multimedia portraits is the outcome of an unpredictable journey. The only criteria was that the final image had to feel true to both of us in its essence. So far, the project has shown us that the line between artist and subject, and between human nature and Nature itself, is more fluid and elusive than we ever imagined.
